Article Marketing

contentLet’s start by asking the question – what is Article Marketing?

It is a form of marketing, which involves writing articles and by allowing other people to use your articles for rich content on their own blog or website, it generates traffic back to your blog or website.

There is a huge and hungry demand for good quality content for people to use on their blogs and websites. As the Internet continues to expand at an ever-increasing rate, this presents a good opportunity for you to generate a significant presence online.

You write an article, let’s say, for your own blog. You spend some time doing the research and maybe an hour or more writing your article. You then publish it on your blog and hopefully, if you have done a good job, you will encourage visitors to your blog who will want to come back for more. Doesn’t that seem like a lot of effort just to try and attract people to your blog?

So why not share your article with other people. It’s all about leverage. You make it a condition that they are allowed to use your article provided they also include a ‘resource box’ below the article, which clearly identifies you as the author and provides a link back to your own site.

This is usually done via an Article Directory. There are many such directories you can choose from, EzineArticles being one of the best known popular directories at the moment. You must register with them and set up an account. It’s a free service, but you have to abide by their rules.

Each article has to be approved before appearing in the directory. It has to be original, good quality and of sufficient length. It can contain only one or two hyperlinks in the text if it is within the flow of the text and therefore, not blatant advertising.

Once approved and in the directory, people will come to the directory to look for suitable articles for their blog or website. They can only use it together with your resource box. There are safeguards to prevent misuse and ultimately, because you are identified within the directory as the original author, Google will penalize the misuser for duplicate content on their site.

Even if your article is not used, Google and other search engines will pick up on your resource box, providing useful backlinks to your blog from the directory.

The Article Directories also provide useful feedback; with statistics on the number of times your article has been read and the number of times people have clicked on your resource box.

As members of P2S, we are being encouraged to write articles for our blogs. These articles should be written in our own words and be of good quality. Ideal for the Article Directories, so why not leverage on all the hard work you put in to research and write the article?

I also refer to my earlier post Using PLR Articles. Provided you follow what I say in that post, there is no reason why you cannot submit your re-written article to the Article Directories (I know, because I’ve done it).

It’s always a good idea to test your article with an Article Directory anyway, because you will know that if it passes their approval process you have done a good job in rewriting the article.

I hope you find this article useful and welcome your comments.

I have posted on EzineArticles many times on a variety of subjects and have even been awarded Platinum status, but have used the services of Steve Shaw’s article marketing service called SubmitYourArticle.com.

There is a monthly charge either for single author or multi-author names and they submit your articles and blogs to a multitude of article directories around the internet. This saves you having to find suitable directories and submit individually and this makes the service they provide very reasonable.

I did this for a Health and Safety site on which I worked and accomplished literally hundreds of strong back links for the site and shot it up the rankings until the guy stopped paying me! Looks like it has vanished off the face of the map now so wonder what he did!

    Good luck

Thanks for the extra tip Dave which I’m sure my readers will appreciate. This is a perfect example of what JT calls “added value” when making a comment:-)

However, I’m a little confused by the last para of your comment. Who stopped paying you?

    Cheers,

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for an informative article. I have tried article marketing a number of times in the past, but have not had great success with it. It has helped to promote a couple of my sites higher in the SERPS, but one needs to persevere with this method and write a lot of articles, which is not one of my strong points.

You have brought up a few ideas and I will take some of your advice and get back to writing some quality articles again. Hopefully, I will be able to keep writing over a period of time and get more of my articles published. I know it is a good way to promote one’s sites and I am going to dedicate some time to improving my skills in this area.

    Thanks for the encouragement 🙂

I have discovered that Ezinearticles have a plugin for WordPress which makes it very easy to submit an article from there. It allows you to submit a different version than the published version on your blog. This is useful because you need to remove any promotion links from the body text which is against their rules. Search for Ezinearticles in the ‘find new plugins’ box
