Focus! Focus! Focus!

focusWhen looking to buy a house, they say it’s all about Location! Location! Location!

When setting out to build an online marketing business it’s all about Focus! Focus! Focus! and to avoid Distraction! Distraction! Distraction!

I was politely reminded of this last week when I attempted to promote a product I had bought (and was very impressed with) to other members of P2S via their Facebook Group.

The post was very quickly deleted by the moderator/s and when I asked why, I was told that a) it’s unethical to use affiliate links within posts to a private members only forum and b) I was creating a distraction for other members who should be focusing on the program in hand. I have to admit that they were absolutely right on both counts, but let’s concentrate on b) DISTRACTION!!!

I know from my own experience that DISTRACTION is one of the worst enemies for anyone trying to develop a successful IM business online. It applies to offline businesses as well of course, but IM’s are particularly prone because they are spending an inordinate amount of time online and are being constantly bombarded with this product and that product, this idea and that idea, this one-time offer and must buy before the price goes up etc etc…

Unfortunately (fortunately, depending on where your coming from), this is the nature of the business we are getting into, but unless you maintain your focus on whatever it is you are trying to achieve, then the end result is you achieve absolutely nothing.

We are also being told that to be successful in this IM business, we should concentrate on helping others, rather than the money. By concentrating on helping others the money will surely come. Well, there are so many people trying to help you in this business it’s almost overwhelming:-) I thought I was being helpful with my post to the Facebook Group:-)

For example, when I downloaded Dan Sumner’s The Bloggers Roadmap, I was automatically signed up to his emailing list and ever since I have received regular emails promoting something or other. This morning he was offering a free website. Please don’t misunderstand me here, I’m not being critical of Dan in any shape or form, because that is hopefully, exactly what we as P2S students will be doing anytime soon.

Of course, I could unsubscribe from Dan’s list and get rid of the distraction that way, but instead I have decided just simply to observe his style and learn from it. It only becomes a distraction if I respond to his emails and the many others I receive in my inbox every day.

Having invested a lot of money and ongoing time in P2S, I’m determined not to let anything distract me away from the end goal of becoming a successful internet marketer and intend to Focus! Focus! Focus!

    Hi Richard,

I absolutely agree with you on the ‘focus’ thing; it is SO hard at times. I think it has to be something that you create a habit to do. As a habit, it’s second nature so you don’t have to force your body or even think about it; it just happens. But for now, it’s a matter of getting in the habit of being able to focus! I focus for some periods and then others get distracted and lose hours out of my day (not fun)!

I dig the header Richard! Thanks for the tip on my blog!
